Once

upon

a

time,

women rapped and kept their under garments on and just spit their lyrics.

Only a few pictures of men could get glimpse of a bathing suit  a bra top or  a wardrobe  malfunction but that was it, it would go no further. Lets be clear, I also adore most female rappers in this industry but these are half-naked most of the time because is it so common place these days.

When you are an avid activist of women In the arts, such as myself, you understand  Lil Kim and Mrs. Minaj and message of female expression and empowerment, even if you don’t care for the perception and the molding of the young female minds. They are both beautiful women with a message to women, but not little girls!

However unfortunate  but obvious is that  women have abandoned the life lessons of solidarity and we are culture “Miseducated” but that money will overshadow the power to our people and education of our youth  will make millions these days.

The revised rap blue print for women   is  a paradox to the Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill and her foreshadowing on the slut like activity of women that we celebrate and even honor at the Grammys.

Lauryn was cut from a different cloth and opened our ears to self-pride and self- preservation.

Apparently the Hip Hop Nation will not be able to envision another genius who also carried herself like a queen, and not a “Trap Queen.”

Back then, a person would not be half-naked every day unless she was a day time hooker.

While we as women and men  should be someway protesting, and demanding fair treatment by men, we are subconsciously every stereotype to “keep” a man.

Thanks to Snap Chat, Twitter, and  Instigram we are so disillusioned of  what is substantive or superficial?

No pictures of Queen Latifah‘s big draws or MC Lyte‘s   panties would have been posted all over social media.

We relentlessly speak of Women Empowerment, but that is not what the younger listeners are going to identify with and embrace.

The message of mental strength is lost with butt shots, mindless sex and  money over anything genuine in this life. We have to nourish our families physically and psychologically

We don’t comprehended how lost and fake we are in this world and Kendrick Lamar is kicking off that knowledge.

Lauryn Hill foreshadowed our mental and spiritual weakening  and the truth was too scary for her so she escaped her public existence and moved out of the industry.

Mrs. Hill is the woman who could have been on the level of Nina Simone, but she escaped her surroundings and lost her musical vision in this ever-changing hasty culture.

It is challenging to stand up for your self-respect and principles when you are trying to protect your people, usually the backlash comes from  your message from the very people you are trying to empower.

Update – Not Guilty, My Ass. Freddie Gray Should Be Alive! ***messymandella***murder trial starts today…

Looting

Uprising

Rioting

Baltimore, no matter what  we label the actions in Maryland this week, this wouldn’t have happened if the moral code of the world was deemed superior to the so called law enforcement code. Who are the laws built to protect? Apparently not  Tamir Rice, Walter Scott, Trayvon, Mike Brown, and everyone else that was murdered just because they bumped into the wrong police officer at the wrong time?

Freddie, shouldn’t be dead and his twin sister shouldn’t be giving interviews. Oh, and to the conservatives who investigated Freddie Gray’s criminal record, you yourself wanted and needed validation  of your own racism and bigotry. If your relative was murdered by policeman, the LAST thing I would do would be to pull up their criminal records.

The  officers that were the same nationality of Freddie Gray are lower than dirt for what they watched and took place in to cause the “Uprising” and lynching  of Freddie are worse than George Zimmerman. Someone could have saved Freddie’s life. These people are upset the law has failed them repeatedly. How many more men and marches are we going to have this year. It is May 1,2015 and we are not getting the national support or confidence that this will change. Black men will keep running, because even if they run or not, they still may end up dead from  a police lynching, like Eric Garner and now Freddie Gray.

You will be lied to and trashed behind your back by close minded individuals that can’t envision an eclectic and unified world.

They will  resent you for competing and striving for more in this life. You will encounter smiles behind a closed door and insults when you are not around.

I speak from experience and want you to realize that if you are being dragged, look at who is doing the dragging.

You must not let jealousy and back biting  omit your personal truth, and freedom and rights to be happy. Express your opinions and dont give up your fight for equality.

Look at the people that are causing defamation and just being pure two faced and never let them become victorious.

You look at their close minded lives and watch how scared they are of embracing truth, expression and art. Even with betrayal, you must stand strong and still YOU must rise.

Still I Rise-Maya Angelou

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don’t you take it awful hard
‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.

the murder of sakia latonia gunn (May 26, 1987-May 11, 2003)

Sakia Gunn, lost her  life lost through hate and prejudice.sakia in a dress

Sakia Gunn, was a daughter, and a woman who lived her life honestly and openly. Sakia, never wanted to be anyone but her true self. Some of us should question our own teachings, and hatred toward anyone that lives their life openly. Sakia never made it to  her Sweet 16 Birthday.. Never had a chance to fight for her cause.  She had two strikes against her, being black and being a lesbian. Sakia, an openly gay and black really would fight many battles. sakia-and-mom

Sadly, Sakia lost her life because of who she was and what she believed. Her  honesty and pride with her self, was too much for a disturbed man. Sakia’s story has been whispered around urban neighborhoods. It’s time for her life to be remembered, as brief as it descended.

Sakia was a 15-year-old teenager walking home with her  friends in Greenwich Village. As she was walking and getting ready to go home, men were flirting and trying to get their attention. Sakia Gunn ignored their advances. When Sakia and her  friends walked away they told the men that they were lesbians. Sakia’s murderer decided to get out the car, and stab Sakia Gunn in front of her friends. You can also watch her movie and read more about her life and read more about her tragedy.

Sakia died  in her cousins arms. Sakia’s life and death were detailed in “Dreams Deferred:The Sakia Gunn Film Project.”

Your life is about choices, and honesty within yourself. Sakia knew who she was and was not afraid to tell the world.  This  little girl, did not get press and of course attention, but that is why at messymandella.com we will always remember people who the FOX and CNN and other news outlets have  forgotten.
