Authorities have identified the body of a man found last month in southwest Atlanta in the trunk of a burned-out car.

And police are asking for the public’s help to find Asaad Omar Doby’s killer.

“We don’t really have a lot of solid leads to follow-up on,” Atlanta Police homicide unit commander Capt. Paul Guerrucci said.

Doby, 29, was reported missing Sept. 7. He was last seen leaving his home two days earlier in his white 2005 Chevrolet Impala, according to the police missing person report.

Doby’s fiancé told police they went on a date on the night of Sept. 5, and Doby left their home on Briar Glen Lane in southwest Atlanta, promising “he would be right back.”

“She stated that he did not say exactly where he was going but normally he always returns immediately,” the police report said.

An hour later, after Doby hadn’t returned, police said the fiancé called his cell phone only to have the call, and every subsequent call, forwarded directly to voice mail.

On Sept. 12, City of Atlanta workers inspecting watershed storm drains near 3540 North Camp Creek Parkway found a burned vehicle.

Police called to the scene found a body in the trunk.

Fulton County Medical Examiners identified the body as Doby.

Investigators haven’t yet determined whether he was killed before he was put into the trunk and the car was burned.

Police are investigating Doby’s death as a homicide, Guerrucci said.

“We really haven’t established a motive or suspect,” he said. “Somebody’s got to know something. Any information, we would welcome.”
